When you live in a city like Buffalo, famously known for its snow, winter engagement photos are almost a must! I know I just wrote a post about one of my favorite indoor engagement options for when it’s too cold, BUT, if you want to run around in the snow with your love for a winter engagement session, you can count me in to photograph it!
Here are my top three tips for rocking your winter engagement photos!
1. Dress in layers.
Longsleeve shirt, sweater, coat, gloves, hat, two pairs of socks, and boots. Wear them all. You can always take your hat, gloves, and coat off for photos. Hide a few hand warmer packs in your pockets to keep warm, too. (These are so cheap on Amazon!) For my ladies who choose to do dreamy long dresses in the winter, a good pair of leggings underneath are your new best friend.
2. Have your photo locations pre-planned.
Having a couple spots picked out ahead of time helps move your session along so you don’t get too cold. Point out a few areas you like to your photographer, or ask them for their recommendations.
3. Have fun and embrace the weather.
I mean, you did choose to schedule engagement photos for the middle of winter. You can’t be mad at the weather, right? Have fun with it! Snuggle in close to warm up, dance in the snow, heck, start a snowball fight!
Amanda and Jay did just that, enjoyed the session! We spent a snowy Saturday morning walking through Delaware Park, talking about their wedding day and our favorite games to play, listening to the snow fall around us. Amanda said she had hoped for snowy engagement pictures and boy oh boy, Buffalo did not disappoint. Take a look at Amanda and Jay’s romantic winter engagement session!
