nice to meet you!
I am a natural light photographer who lives for the magic of unplanned moments. To me that's the good stuff that fills our lives. The soft, intimate moments when your love squeezes your hand tight just before leaning in to whisper I love you, and the loud, lively moments that make you laugh so hard you could pee your pants. When you look back at these photos in 20 years, I want you to smile big and remember exactly how you felt.
Celebrating love makes my heart jump and if you can't tell, I LOVE what I do.
A little bit more about me:
I was born in Germany but spent most of my life growing up in Michigan. Now I reside in Buffalo, New York! I'm married to my high school sweetheart and a majority of our time is spent loving on our little beagle-mix rescue pup, Mia. She's a handful but I'm obsessed with her, like any good dog mom should be. Reality TV is my guilty pleasure. Where are my fellow Big Brother and Bachelor Nation fans at?
my photography approach
My approach is very relaxed and natural. Clients have described my style as "candid" and "true to life." While I will gently direct you so we have the best light, or give you an action to spark emotion, we will never do any cheesy prom poses. (Pinky promise.)
Capturing you and your love as you are is when I can really tell your story to the best of my ability. I'll capture all the important group photos to be treasured for generations to come, but what I really love are the candid moments that happen on their own. To me, this is the really good, real life stuff that fills our hearts.
If you're not a fan of being in front of the camera, or have never had professional photos taken, this paragraph is for you my friend.
My husband and I take anniversary photos every year, and while I am a photographer, I still get uncomfortable when I'm the one stepping in front of the camera. It can be an awkward feeling, I get it! Nearly every couple comes to me very excited to work together, but usually with the same hesitation: "We're not models! We don't know what to do in front of a camera! We're a little nervous!" I hear this over and over, and I promise you, I will do everything I can to help ease that feeling. It is my goal to ensure you feel comfortable and confident and that your best, truest self shines through! I'll play your favorite music, joke around, and even grab a drink with you before our session if we need to ;)
In my element. Honestly, I can't believe this is my job sometimes. I am so grateful to get to connect with so many amazing people and capture moments that will be passed down for generations. What an honor it is to be the one chosen to help tell your story.
My biggest supporter, Austin. The one who is always there for me no matter what. I can always count on him to give me reassurance and make me laugh. For real, he's one of the funniest people I know and has dad jokes for dayssss.
Don't be fooled, here's what we actually look like on a photoshoot. I was probably telling him how hungry I was. And he probably said he was getting too hot. *Thank you to Gabrielle Hail for taking our anniversary photos!
Mia, Assistant to the Regional Manager here at Jessy Herman Photo. Bonus points if you understood that reference. Mia gives encouragement, snuggles, and always makes an appearance when FaceTiming clients!
